WiTalk9 for Easy Comm in Filming for Four Seasons Kyoto

2025-02-24 17:50

Lua, a Spain-based but world-traveling cinematographer since 2017, chose WiTalk9 to coordinate his team when shooting a short film for Four Seasons Kyoto back in November 2024. The 500-meter line-of-sight range and long battery life are what the filmmaker likes about the full-duplex intercom system.

"The range and noise cancellation stood out the most"

"There was a scene where my team and I were quite far apart—especially when we were inside the Four Seasons. Our camera (Micaela Tarelli) was able to go all the way to her room while I was outside in the garden, and the connection still worked perfectly. We were about 500 meters apart, with walls and doors in between," says Lua in a WhatsApp conversation.

WiTalk9 features a 500-meter line-of-sight range that is made possible with DECT, a technology that wirelessly transmits signals on a less-crowded frequency band, reducing the possibility of interferences from the likes of Wi-Fi routers and Bluetooth. The dual antenna built inside the headset system only consolidates signal strength.

"Working with WiTalk9 was incredibly easy—we barely had to spend any time on adjustments. It worked perfectly right from the start, just by turning it on. No interference throughout the entire project — it was truly amazing," adds Lua.

"The battery life is incredible"

"It lasted through an entire shooting day with charge to spare for the next one," says the filmmaker. "I’ve used walkie-talkies for weddings and similar situations, as well as headsets from other brands on projects. However, battery life was always an issue."

Thanks to a more efficient chip, WiTalk9 features a long battery life—users can use the master headset for up to 9 hours, which is a 4-hour leap forward from its previous generation. The remote headsets have a longer runtime of up to 15 hours, allowing teams to focus on what they are making instead of equipment management mid-shoot.
